Amazon is making waves in the entertainment industry with its upcoming adaptation of the popular video game franchise, God of War. The mythology-inspired series is set to be a major project for the streaming platform, with a two-season order already in place.
The show will be helmed by Frederick E.O. Toye, who has an impressive resume including work on hit series like Lost, The Walking Dead, and Westworld. Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Outlander and Battlestar Galactica, will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.
Production for the God of War series is set to begin in 2026 in Vancouver, with a release date on Amazon Prime Video expected in 2027. The show will follow the story of Kratos, a Spartan warrior, and his son, Atreus, as they embark on a journey through the Viking age in ancient Norway.

Ryan Hurst, known for his role in Sons of Anarchy, has been cast as Kratos, while Max Parker will play Heimdall and Teresa Palmer will portray Sif. Mandy Patinkin will take on the role of Odin, the All-Father and formidable antagonist to Kratos.
The series will explore Norse mythology as Kratos and Atreus encounter deities and creatures from the nine realms, including Odin, Thor, and the impending event of Ragnarök, the end of the world.
