Jimmy Kimmel jokingly offers to host White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel made headlines this week after joking that he should host the upcoming White House Correspondents’ Dinner following the news that President Donald Trump will attend. Trump’s decision to attend the dinner for the first time in his presidency has sparked interest and excitement among many.
Kimmel, during his opening monologue on Tuesday night, shared the news of Trump’s acceptance of the invitation to the dinner. This will be the first time Trump has attended the dinner since 2011 when he appeared as a celebrity guest. The dinner, known for its tradition of having a comedian host the event, will break tradition this year by featuring mentalist Oz Pearlman as the performer.
Commenting on the choice of a mentalist over a comedian, Kimmel humorously called it a “cop out” and jokingly appealed to Trump to let him host the event instead. He envisioned a scenario where he, Trump, and the FCC commissioner would sit together, promising great ratings for the event.
In response to Kimmel’s comments, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle made a dismissive remark about the late-night host, calling him a “talentless hack with failing ratings.” The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
Kimmel’s reference to the FCC commissioner likely stems from a previous controversy involving FCC Brendan Carr issuing a threat to Disney over Kimmel’s controversial comments regarding Charlie Kirk’s assassination. This led to Disney briefly suspending Kimmel’s show for a week, although the FCC was not directly involved in the decision.
Last year, the WHCA had also broken tradition by canceling comedian Amber Ruffin as a performer for the dinner in an effort to move away from “the politics of division.” The upcoming event promises to be an interesting and entertaining evening with Trump’s attendance and the unique choice of entertainment.
Overall, the anticipation for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is high, with Kimmel’s playful banter and Trump’s presence adding an extra layer of excitement to the event. It remains to be seen how the evening will unfold and whether Kimmel’s wish to host the dinner will come true.
