Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus closing several stores across Southern California

Southern California’s luxury shopping scene is undergoing changes as three high-end department store locations get ready to close their doors.

Among the closures are two Saks Fifth Avenue stores, one at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa and the other at The Gardens on El Paseo in Palm Desert. Additionally, a Neiman Marcus store at Westfield Topanga in Canoga Park will also be shutting down.

These closures are part of a nationwide restructuring effort by Saks Global, the parent company of both luxury department store chains.

In a recent statement, Saks Global announced plans to close a total of 12 Saks Fifth Avenue stores and three Neiman Marcus locations across the United States as part of their operational streamlining following a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing earlier this year.

Geoffroy van Raemdonck, the CEO of Saks Global, stated, “This strategic optimization is part of our ongoing transformation and rooted in our long-term view of our business. Our go-forward store portfolio will comprise the best performing and most desirable locations in markets with the highest concentration of luxury customers.”

The closures will impact two key luxury markets in California. The Saks store at South Coast Plaza caters to affluent shoppers in Orange County, while the Palm Desert store serves wealthy residents and seasonal visitors in the Coachella Valley. The Neiman Marcus store at Westfield Topanga has been a major anchor for the San Fernando Valley mall.

While some Saks locations in Southern California are closing, the Saks Fifth Avenue store in Beverly Hills is not part of the closure list and will remain open.

These changes reflect the ongoing shifts in the luxury retail industry, with companies focusing more on online shopping and flagship locations.
