Costco recalls meatloaf in more than two dozen states due to salmonella risk

Costco has issued a recall for a meatloaf and potato meal kit sold in nearly 30 states due to potential salmonella contamination. The product, known as Meatloaf with Mashed Yukon Potatoes and Glaze, with sell-by dates ranging from March 5 to March 16, was available at Costco stores in 26 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C.

Customers who have purchased this product are advised not to consume it and can return it to any Costco location for a full refund. The recall was initiated after one of the ingredient suppliers, Griffith Foods, recalled a specific ingredient used in the meatloaf due to possible salmonella contamination.

Salmonella is a bacterial disease that is commonly transmitted through contaminated water or food. Symptoms of salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, and in severe cases, it can be fatal. Despite the recall, no injuries or illnesses associated with the affected product have been reported thus far, according to Costco.

The states where the recalled meal kit was sold include Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

As a precautionary measure, customers are urged to check their purchase history and dispose of any affected products. Costco is working diligently to ensure the safety of its customers and is cooperating with health authorities to investigate the source of the contamination.
