Craft beer BrewDog to launch in Hamptons after Tilray CEO buys troubled brewer

Irwin Simon Expands Beer Offerings with Acquisition of BrewDog

Irwin Simon, known for his success in the herbal tea industry and subsequent pivot to legal weed, is now expanding his company’s beer offerings through the recent acquisition of UK-based BrewDog for $53 million by Tilray Brands, where he serves as CEO.

Prior to this deal, Simon led turnaround efforts for various brands, including Celestial Seasonings under the Hain Celestial Group. The acquisition of BrewDog marks a new chapter in Simon’s career, focusing on craft beer, pot, and wellness foods.

Simon plans to revitalize BrewDog’s image and sales, leveraging Tilray’s position as the fourth-largest craft brewer in the US. The company aims to introduce BrewDog drinks to new markets, including pop-ups at luxury locations like East Hampton’s Maidstone Hotel.

BrewDog faced challenges due to overexpansion, but Simon sees potential in repositioning the brand and driving regional growth. The company’s rebellious image and innovative approach to craft brewing align with Simon’s vision for the future.

Additionally, Tilray will introduce Montauk Brewing Co. beverages to BrewDog pubs in the US and Europe, expanding the reach of both brands in the competitive craft beer market.

Despite rising anti-US sentiment in Europe, Simon remains optimistic about the opportunities presented by the BrewDog acquisition. He plans to leverage events, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships to elevate the brand’s presence globally.
