Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine brags that Maduro signed his SpongeBob toy in infamous NYC lockup

Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine recently made headlines for an unexpected friendship formed behind bars. The controversial musician, who was released from Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, proudly showed off a SpongeBob SquarePants doll signed by none other than Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.

In a video posted on Tekashi’s Instagram page, he excitedly displayed the doll with Maduro’s signature, boasting about the unexpected encounter. Maduro, who has been held at the MDC since January after being captured by US forces in Caracas, signed the doll on the second of April, declaring “Venezuela forever.”

Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, had reported to MDC in January for violating the terms of his probation. This came after he was involved in assaulting a man and possessing illegal substances in his bedroom. Originally incarcerated in 2019 for his ties to the violent Nine Trey Gangsta Blood gang, Tekashi was released early due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Upon his release, Tekashi was gifted a stunning nearly 400-carat chain that weighs over four pounds. The extravagant piece of jewelry reportedly cost more than $2 million, a fact that Tekashi proudly shared on his Instagram post.

The Metropolitan Detention Center has housed a number of high-profile inmates over the years, including Diddy, R. Kelly, Ghislaine Maxwell, and now Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who are facing drug-trafficking charges.
