3.1 million bottles of eye drops sold at Walgreens, CVS and more are recalled. Here’s what to know.
After concerns about the sterility of more than 3.1 million bottles of eye drops sold at major retailers like Walgreens and CVS, the Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall. The manufacturer of the eye drops, K.C. Pharmaceuticals, initiated the recall due to potential issues with the products’ sterility. These eye drops were sold under various brand names, including Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops and Artificial Tears Sterile Lubricant Eye Drops.
The FDA classified this recall as “Class II,” which means that the products may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, with a low probability of serious adverse health effects. This recall comes on the heels of another eye drops recall in 2023 involving a different manufacturer whose products were found to contain bacteria.
The recall by K.C. Pharmaceuticals includes eight different brands of eye drops, with the largest lot comprising over 1 million bottles of Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops sold at stores such as Rite Aid, H-E-B, and Harris Teeter. The recalled items include:
– 1,023,096 bottles of Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops
– 589,848 bottles of Artificial Tears Sterile Lubricant Eye Drops
– 378,144 bottles of Sterile Eye Drops Original Formula
– 315,144 bottles of Sterile Eye Drops Redness Lubricant
– 303,216 bottles of Eye Drops Advanced Relief
– 245,184 bottles of Ultra Lubricating Eye Drops
– 182,424 bottles of Sterile Eye Drops AC
– 74,016 bottles of Sterile Eye Drops Soothing Tears
These products were sold at various retailers, including Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, and Rite Aid, as well as through online platforms and workplace distributors.
Consumers who have purchased any of the recalled eye drops are advised to stop using them immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a refund. It is essential to prioritize eye health and safety by only using products that have been deemed safe and sterile by regulatory authorities.
This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of product quality and safety in the healthcare industry. Consumers should always be vigilant about the products they use and report any adverse reactions or concerns to the appropriate authorities. Stay informed and prioritize your health and well-being when choosing over-the-counter medications and healthcare products.
