Father, teen arrested after chemical explosives were found at their New York home
A father and son duo from New York have been arrested and charged after authorities discovered dangerous chemicals at their residence that were being used to create explosive materials. The investigation into the pair began when a swastika was found in a male bathroom at Syosset High School, leading the Nassau County Police Department to look into the matter.
The 15-year-old son was accused of drawing the swastika, which prompted authorities to search their home. Francisco Sanles, 48, faces charges including criminal possession of a weapon, criminal facilitation, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment. The teenager, whose name has not been released, is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, aggravated harassment, and making graffiti.
Upon the discovery of the chemicals, the authorities took immediate action by evacuating the home and neighboring residents. The Nassau County Fire Marshal, Arson Bomb Squad, Nassau County Police Emergency Service Unit, and Hazardous Material Response Team were all called to the scene to safely remove the hazardous materials.
Further investigation revealed that Sanles had purchased the chemicals on multiple occasions, leading to his arrest. The school district informed students and staff about the incident and ongoing investigation via email, ensuring transparency and cooperation with law enforcement.
Sanles is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead, while the teenager will appear in Nassau County Family Court. As of now, no attorney information for the father and son has been provided in court records.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and prompt action when dealing with potentially dangerous situations. The collaboration between law enforcement and educational institutions is crucial in maintaining a safe environment for students and the community as a whole.
