Trump administration met with tech giants before Mythos release

Vice President JD Vance and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently discussed the security of artificial intelligence models with top tech CEOs before the release of Anthropic’s new Mythos model, as reported by CNBC.

The meeting took place over the phone and included prominent figures such as Dario Amodei from Anthropic, Elon Musk from xAI, Sundar Pichai from Google, Sam Altman from OpenAI, Satya Nadella from Microsoft, George Kurtz from CrowdStrike, and Nikesh Arora from Palo Alto Networks.

The discussion focused on the security of large language models and their safe deployment, as well as strategies to counter potential cyber attacks leveraging these models.

Anthropic has been collaborating with government officials on cybersecurity and has offered support for evaluating the technology’s capabilities.

Apple, Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, Palo Alto Networks, and CrowdStrike were among the initial partners to receive access to Anthropic’s Mythos AI model for evaluation.

The concerns raised by Treasury Secretary Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell regarding the potential threats posed by Mythos underline the ongoing discussions on advanced cyber tools in the Trump administration.

The legal battle between Anthropic and the Department of Defense over the supply chain risk designation is still ongoing, with conflicting rulings from different courts.

Despite the legal challenges, Anthropic is restricted from DOD contracts but can continue working with other federal agencies during the ongoing litigation.
