Zendaya, Jean Smart Eye Historic Emmy Sweep for ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Hacks’
HBO’s latest hit shows, “Hacks” and “Euphoria,” have set the stage for a potential Emmy history-making moment for Jean Smart and Zendaya. Both actresses are on the verge of achieving something no woman has ever accomplished: winning an Emmy for every single season of their respective series.
In the history of the Emmy Awards, the only performer to achieve this feat is Bill Cosby, who won for all three seasons of the drama “I Spy.” Blythe Danner also won for both seasons of “Huff,” although the show was canceled after two seasons. Julia Louis-Dreyfus came close with six wins out of seven seasons for “Veep,” missing out only in the final season.
Jean Smart, who has been a standout in “Hacks,” has already won lead comedy actress trophies for each eligible season of the show. With the fifth season underway, she is once again a frontrunner for the award. Meanwhile, Zendaya’s performance in “Euphoria” has been equally impressive, with two wins in the lead drama actress category.
Zendaya made history as the youngest winner in the lead drama actress category at age 24. Her second win also earned her a nomination as a producer for outstanding drama series, making her the youngest two-time lead acting nominee. If both Smart and Zendaya receive nominations this year, they will join an elite list of performers who have been nominated for every season of their respective shows.
In addition to Smart and Zendaya, other actors who have achieved this feat include Alan Alda, Tina Fey, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. “Hacks” could potentially add to this narrative, with co-star Hannah Einbinder also in line for a perfect five-for-five nomination streak in the supporting comedy actress category.
Looking ahead, FX’s “The Bear” is poised to continue the trend, with four of its actors potentially securing their fourth consecutive nominations. With a fifth and final season on the horizon, the ensemble cast could make history in the upcoming Emmy Awards.
Overall, the Emmys often recognize compelling narratives alongside exceptional performances. A clean sweep by two iconic women like Smart and Zendaya would not only rewrite Emmy history but also showcase the talent and dedication of these two remarkable actresses.
