Oasis, Phil Collins, Billy Idol, More

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has revealed the eight performers who will be inducted into the class of 2026. Among the esteemed group are Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan. These musicians were chosen from a pool of 17 nominees, marking the largest number of contenders in Hall of Fame history.

Unfortunately, nine artists did not make the cut for 2026, including the Black Crowes, Jeff Buckley, Mariah Carey, Melissa Etheridge, Lauryn Hill, INXS, New Edition, Pink, and Shakira. However, the Hall of Fame has a way of honoring a wide range of musicians, as evidenced by the additional 10 inductees selected by the Rock Hall committee in categories such as Early Influences, Musical Excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

The Early Influence Award recipients include Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons. The Musical Excellence Award winners are Linda Creed, Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller, and Rick Rubin. The Ahmet Ertegun Award honorees were announced during a special Hall of Fame-themed episode of “American Idol.”

The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 14 in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on ABC and Disney+ in December. Notable first-time inductees this year include Phil Collins as a solo artist, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan. Other artists like Oasis, Iron Maiden, and Joy Division/New Order were voted in after multiple nominations.

The induction of artists like Gram Parsons and Fela Kuti in the Early Influence category highlights the committee’s efforts to recognize influential musicians who may have struggled to garner enough votes in previous years. The fan vote winner, New Edition, unfortunately did not secure a spot in the top eight despite strong support online.

One of the most anticipated aspects of the ceremony is how Oasis singer Liam Gallagher will react to his band’s induction, especially considering his past reluctance to participate. The event may also see performances from current and former members of New Order, despite ongoing tensions within the group.

While some inductees like Phil Collins may face challenges in performing due to health issues, fans can look forward to appearances from active performers like Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, and Wu-Tang Clan. Ticket information for the ceremony will be released at a later date, with plans to return to Cleveland for the 2027 induction.
