Goldeneyes keep slim playoff hopes alive with 4-1 win over Torrent

The Vancouver Goldeneyes secured a crucial 4-1 victory over the Seattle Torrent in a matchup between two expansion teams, keeping their playoff hopes alive in the process. Hannah Miller opened the scoring early in the second period, setting the tone for Vancouver’s much-needed win.

Sarah Nurse, Anna Meixner, and Madison Samoskevich also found the back of the net for the Goldeneyes, with defenseman Ashton Bell contributing two assists to the team’s offensive efforts. Miller’s goal marked her fourth of the season and her 50th career PWHL point, highlighting her impact on the team’s success.

On the other side, Mikyla Grant-Mentis managed to score the lone goal for the Seattle Torrent, who have been eliminated from playoff contention. Despite their efforts, the Torrent struggled to keep pace with Vancouver throughout the game.

With this victory, the Goldeneyes now have 30 points and currently sit in seventh place in the eight-team league. While their playoff chances remain slim, the team is determined to fight for a spot in the top four, with the Ottawa Charge currently occupying the final playoff position with 36 points.

Vancouver goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer delivered a strong performance, making 29 saves in the game. Although her shutout bid was spoiled by Grant-Mentis in the third period, Maschmeyer’s efforts were instrumental in securing the win for her team. On the other end, Seattle goalie Corinne Schroeder struggled, allowing four goals on 15 shots before being replaced by Carly Jackson in the second period.

Meixner and Samoskevich played pivotal roles in the game, scoring goals just 33 seconds apart in the second period to give Vancouver a commanding 4-0 lead. Their offensive contributions proved to be crucial in securing the win for the Goldeneyes.

Looking ahead, the Seattle Torrent will have a chance for redemption as they host the Vancouver Goldeneyes in their next matchup. With their playoff hopes hanging in the balance, both teams will be eager to secure a crucial victory in their quest for postseason success.
