GLN launches Vietnam-wide QR payments via NAPAS national network
GLN International, a subsidiary of Hana Bank under Hana Financial Group, has recently introduced a nationwide QR payment service in Vietnam in collaboration with local payment processor NAPAS. This new initiative establishes a direct link between GLN and Vietnam’s national QR payment infrastructure, providing a seamless and convenient payment solution for users.
This strategic move is part of Hana Financial Group’s cross-border payments programme, with Hana Bank being the sole Korean financial institution designated as a settlement bank following approval from the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV). By leveraging Vietnam’s national QR payment rails, which are based on the VietQR Global system operated by NAPAS, GLN is able to connect banks and merchants across the country, expanding the acceptance of partner banking and fintech applications.
In addition to facilitating domestic QR payments, the partnership between GLN and NAPAS also enables inbound payment use cases. Vietnamese users can now make QR payments in Korea through their domestic applications, further enhancing the convenience and accessibility of cross-border transactions.
GLN has made the service available at popular tourist destinations in Vietnam, including Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, and Ho Chi Minh City, catering to both locals and international visitors. Users can make payments through GLN-connected partner apps such as Toss, PurpleGLN, Hana OneQ, Hana Money, and Hana Card, with plans to expand to additional platforms like Naver Pay and the KB Banking App in the near future.
GLN CEO Seok Lee expressed excitement about the launch, emphasizing the significance of connecting Korea and Vietnam through a unified QR payment infrastructure. By integrating with Vietnam’s national QR network, GLN aims to provide a seamless payment experience for travellers using familiar apps without the need for currency exchange, reinforcing their commitment to leading overseas payments and cash withdrawals without physical cards.
Apart from Vietnam, GLN also offers QR payment and QR withdrawal services in 14 countries across Asia, including China, Thailand, the Philippines, Laos, and Japan. The company has recently expanded its overseas QR cash withdrawal service channels in Japan, Vietnam, and Laos, allowing travellers to withdraw local currency through various GLN-connected apps at designated ATMs.
In conclusion, the launch of Vietnam-wide QR payments via the NAPAS national network signifies a significant milestone for GLN International in its efforts to streamline cross-border transactions and enhance payment experiences for users in Vietnam and beyond.
