Uber will let you book hotels in deal with Expedia — here’s how to get 20% off
Uber Technologies has introduced a new in-app hotel booking feature in collaboration with Expedia Group, enhancing its position as a comprehensive platform for travel, transportation, and food services.
This move is aimed at increasing user engagement and exploring new revenue streams by incorporating travel services within the Uber app. This strategy is part of Uber’s efforts to capture a larger share of consumer spending on mobility and lifestyle services.
The newly announced feature, unveiled during Uber’s annual GO-GET event, enables users in the US to search and book from a selection of over 700,000 hotels worldwide directly through the Uber app. This feature is powered by Expedia’s travel booking platform. Additionally, vacation rental listings from Expedia’s Vrbo are expected to be included later this year.
This partnership also has executive connections, as Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi previously served as the CEO of Expedia before joining Uber in 2017.
Uber has revealed that members of its Uber One subscription program will receive a minimum of 20% discounts on a curated selection of 10,000 hotels and earn 10% back in Uber Credits on their bookings.
Users can easily access the new “hotels” tab on the app’s home screen, where they can filter hotels by price, ratings, and amenities, and complete bookings using their existing Uber wallet.
Furthermore, Uber is expanding its travel-focused offerings by extending Uber One benefits internationally starting June. A new “travel mode” will offer location-specific ride recommendations and curated suggestions for dining and attractions.
