2nd missing USF student’s remains identified

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday that they have positively identified the remains found earlier this week as belonging to Nahida Bristy, one of the missing University of South Florida doctoral students. Bristy, a 27-year-old student, was reported missing along with her friend Zamil Limon on April 16.

Sheriff Chad Chronister stated that forensic investigators faced challenges in identifying Bristy’s remains due to the advanced state of decay. The announcement comes a week after the remains of Zamil Limon were found and identified.

According to investigators, Hisham Abugharbieh, 26, Limon’s roommate, is accused of murdering both Bristy and Limon. Limon was found to have been repeatedly stabbed, but the exact cause of Bristy’s death has not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff Chronister mentioned that the motive behind the murders is still unknown. Abugharbieh was arrested on April 24 after a domestic dispute involving him was reported to the authorities. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a weapon and is being held without bond.

Further details revealed by the sheriff indicate that Abugharbieh allegedly used a cart from the apartment building to transport the victims’ bodies to his car. Investigators also discovered that Abugharbieh had searched online for information related to murdering victims, including disturbing queries about disposing of bodies.

Prosecutors alleged that Abugharbieh used ChatGPT for these searches, with the AI responding in a concerning manner. The tech companies involved in the investigation have been cooperating by providing access to the suspect’s search history, which could potentially shed light on the motive behind the heinous crimes.

Sheriff Chronister emphasized the calculated nature of the suspect’s actions, indicating a premeditated and sinister intent. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the tragedy and provide closure to the victims’ families.
