Fans Streamed Franchise for 33 Billion Minutes 2025

Nielsen has recently shared some fascinating insights into the enduring popularity of the “Star Wars” franchise, just in time for “Star Wars” Day. The data reveals that U.S. viewers collectively watched a staggering 33 billion minutes (equivalent to 550 million hours) of “Star Wars” content in 2025 across both linear TV and streaming platforms. With Disney+ being the go-to streaming service for all things “Star Wars” since Disney acquired the franchise in 2012, it’s no surprise that the galaxy far, far away continues to captivate audiences.

Breaking down the viewing habits further, the “Star Wars” films accounted for the largest share of viewing at 44.2%, followed by live-action shows at 38.9% and animated projects at 16.8%. Surprisingly, documentaries about the franchise only made up a mere 0.2% of the total viewing. Among the titles, “A New Hope” emerged as the most viewed, followed by “The Phantom Menace” and “Rogue One.”

One standout in the live-action series category was “Andor,” which garnered a whopping 7.4 billion minutes of viewing. The show’s popularity soared with the release of its highly-anticipated second season between April and May 2025, earning a spot on the Nielsen Top 10 Streaming Originals chart for six consecutive weeks. Following closely behind were “Skeleton Crew” and the ever-popular “The Mandalorian.”

On May the 4th, 2025, fans celebrated “Star Wars” Day by collectively watching 637 million minutes (or 10.6 million hours) of content. Once again, “Andor” stole the spotlight as the most-viewed title of the day, with “A New Hope,” “The Phantom Menace,” “Empire Strikes Back,” and “Revenge of the Sith” rounding out the top five. The full top 10 list from “Star Wars” Day 2025 showcased the enduring love for the franchise among fans.

Looking at the breakdown by age group for the first quarter of 2026, Nielsen found that “The Mandalorian” resonated most with Gen Alpha and Baby Boomers, while Gen Z favored the animated series “The Clone Wars.” Millennials and Gen X, on the other hand, showed a preference for “Andor.”
