2 Syracuse cops shot by man who sliced dog with machete: reports

Two Syracuse police officers were reportedly attacked by a suspect armed with a shotgun, who barricaded himself inside an apartment after injuring a dog with a machete. The incident took place in the downtown Syracuse area, as reported by local news outlet WSYR-TV.

The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed yet, and he remains inside the apartment building, leading to an ongoing standoff with authorities.

The two injured police officers were transported to Upstate Medical Hospital and are currently in stable condition. Additionally, a third officer sustained injuries, although not from a gunshot, and was also taken to UMH for medical attention.

The chaotic situation unfolded after authorities responded to a call regarding a man causing disturbances and attacking a dog with a machete around noon. The officers were then shot at from inside the apartment through a window, according to Syracuse.com.

As a result of the ongoing standoff, the surrounding area has been placed on lockdown, impacting the plans of numerous visitors in the city for Syracuse University’s graduation ceremony.
