License plate numbers from husband’s old car he refuses to get rid of earn Maryland woman $50K lottery prize
A Maryland woman recently scored big with a $50,000 lottery prize by using her husband’s old car license plate numbers, which he has kept despite its rundown condition. The woman, a resident of St. Mary’s County, shared with the Maryland Lottery that she discovered a “unique five-digit number” on the license plate of her husband’s clunker that inspired her to play the “Pick 5” game.
After sticking with the same number combination for over a year, the woman, who works in the medical field and is a grandmother, hit the jackpot in April, winning the $50,000 prize. According to the Maryland Lottery, she mentioned, “I just stick to Pick 5. That is my game.”
The woman revealed that she plans to use the cash windfall to pay off bills and spoil her grandchildren. The winning ticket was purchased at Atrium Spirits in Charlotte Hall, and the store will also receive a $500 bonus as a result.
The odds of winning the $50,000 prize are 1 in 100,000 and involve placing a $1 bet on correctly guessing the exact 5-digit combination drawn. The lucky winner’s creative use of her husband’s old car license plate numbers certainly paid off, giving her a financial boost and the opportunity to treat her grandchildren.
