31-year-old killer stabbed trans University of Washington student 40 times in student housing complex
A horrific crime shook the University of Washington community when a 31-year-old man allegedly stabbed a transgender college student, Juniper Blessing, more than 40 times in under 10 minutes inside a Seattle student housing complex. Christopher Leahy was charged with first-degree murder for the brutal killing that left Blessing’s body for her peers to discover.
The gruesome incident took place at Nordheim Court Apartments, an off-campus student housing complex close to the UW Seattle campus. Blessing, a 19-year-old student at the university, was found dead in the shared laundry room, with the King County Medical Examiner revealing that she had sustained over 40 stab wounds to her head, neck, shoulders, arms, and hands.
Leahy turned himself in to Bellevue police after surveillance images of him on the night of the murder were released to the public. The surveillance footage captured Leahy stalking around the building before he followed Blessing into the laundry room around 10 p.m. He was seen tampering with a security camera shortly before leaving the room, allowing another student to discover Blessing’s lifeless body.
The recovered timeline from the surveillance footage indicated Leahy’s movements leading up to the murder. Despite attempts to disconnect the camera’s power cord, a Seattle Police digital specialist managed to extract raw data from the SD card, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.
While prosecutors argue that the 40 stab wounds demonstrate an intent to kill, Leahy’s defense attorney disputes premeditation and advocates for a second-degree murder charge. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, with some students reporting instances of Leahy lurking around the building and following them.
