Fidelity Data Breach Settlement Offers Up to $5,000
A significant data breach at Fidelity Investments in 2024 lasted less than 72 hours, but the repercussions are ongoing.
Fidelity has reached a $2.5 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit related to the breach. The incident, which occurred between August 17 and 19, 2024, exposed the financial account numbers and routing numbers of around 155,000 individuals or joint account holders. During the breach, a third party gained unauthorized access to Fidelity’s network and potentially obtained names, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license information.
Fidelity, while not admitting any fault, has agreed to compensate affected customers as part of the settlement.
Who’s eligible and what the settlement offers
The settlement class comprises more than 77,000 customers who received a breach notification from Fidelity regarding the August 2024 incident. Additionally, court documents suggest that approximately 86,000 more customers whose account and routing numbers were exposed may also be eligible for compensation, even if they didn’t receive direct notification.
If you are uncertain about your eligibility, you can contact the settlement administrator at info@FidelityDataSettlement.com or (833) 386-6470.
The highest payout of up to $5,000 is reserved for class members who can provide evidence of actual financial losses or expenses resulting from the breach. This includes unreimbursed fraud or identity theft charges, professional fees, and credit-related costs. To claim the full amount, documentation such as bank statements, invoices, receipts, or bills must be submitted.
All eligible class members who submit a valid claim may receive a pro-rata cash payment estimated at around $100, without the need for proof. California residents can receive an additional $50 under the state’s Consumer Privacy Act. Additionally, all class members are entitled to two years of identity theft protection and credit monitoring, supported by $1 million in financial fraud insurance.
Deadline for filing a claim
Claims must be filed by July 27, 2026, through the settlement website at FidelityDataSettlement.com. The final approval hearing by the court is scheduled for July 9.
Customers who wish to opt out to pursue independent legal action must do so by June 26. Opting out means giving up any share of the settlement, regardless of the payout amount.
For affected customers, submitting a claim before the July deadline is the recommended route to potentially receive some form of compensation.
