Donovan Mitchell’s blunt assessment of Cavaliers’ Game 1 choke: ‘We f–king blew it’
The Cleveland Cavaliers suffered a devastating loss in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals against the New York Knicks. Guard Donovan Mitchell expressed his frustration after the team blew a 22-point lead in the fourth quarter and ultimately lost in overtime.
Mitchell didn’t mince words when he stated, “I said it in the locker room, just that we lost, we f–king blew it.” Despite his strong words, he acknowledged that the team will review the game film and make necessary adjustments for Game 2.
In a postgame press conference, Mitchell emphasized the need to learn from the loss and move forward. He acknowledged that it was a bad loss but remained optimistic about the team’s ability to bounce back in the next game.
The Cavaliers seemed poised for a victory until a late surge from the Knicks, led by guard Jalen Brunson, who scored 17 of his 38 points during the final stretch of the game. The Knicks went on a 44-11 run to secure the win in overtime.
Despite Mitchell’s 29-point performance, he struggled in the crucial moments of the game, going scoreless during the Knicks’ run. Cavaliers center Evan Mobley contributed with 15 points and 14 rebounds, while James Harden had a tough shooting night, going 1-for-8 on 3-pointers.
Mitchell acknowledged the need to regroup quickly as the team prepares for Game 2 just two days after the loss. He emphasized the importance of not letting the defeat affect the team’s momentum and focus moving forward.
The Cavaliers will need to make significant adjustments to avoid a repeat of their collapse in Game 1. With Mitchell leading the way, Cleveland will look to bounce back and even the series in the upcoming matchup against the Knicks.
