Wendell Pierce on ‘Jack Ryan’ Return, ‘Elsbeth’ Finale and ‘Othello’

Being back on stage in D.C. is a full-circle moment for me. I started my career here in Washington, D.C., at Arena Stage, and to come back here after all these years and do a play of this magnitude is really special. I feel like I’ve come back home in a way, and the support and love from the audience here has been incredible.

You mentioned your mantra of doing the trifecta every year. How did that idea come about?

After seeing myself on the billboard in London, it hit me that I was working in theater, TV, and film all at the same time. I realized that this is what I had always dreamed of as an actor, to be able to showcase my talents in different mediums. That’s when I decided that I wanted to do the trifecta every year, and now, I’ve even upped the ante to a quadfecta with my current projects.

What has been the most rewarding part of your career so far?

The most rewarding part of my career has been the opportunity to work with incredibly talented people and to be able to challenge myself with diverse roles. From playing Detective “Bunk” Moreland in “The Wire” to tackling Shakespeare in “Othello,” every role has brought something unique and fulfilling to my career. I feel blessed to have had the chance to explore different genres and characters, and I hope to continue pushing myself as an actor.

What advice do you have for aspiring actors?

My advice for aspiring actors is to focus on the journey, not just the destination. It’s important to embrace every experience and learn from each role you take on. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and take on diverse roles that push you out of your comfort zone. And most importantly, always stay true to yourself and your passion for acting. It’s a tough industry, but with dedication and perseverance, you can achieve your dreams.

As Wendell Pierce continues to captivate audiences with his versatile performances on stage, TV, and film, it’s clear that his dedication to his craft and his passion for storytelling shine through in every role he takes on. From Shakespeare to modern-day dramas, Pierce’s talent knows no bounds, and audiences can’t wait to see what he’ll conquer next in his acting journey. We’ll see how it goes. I think it would be great to have a theatrical release for the next “Jack Ryan” movie. It would be a fantastic experience for audiences to see it on the big screen, especially with all the action and intrigue that the film will bring. Plus, it would allow us to reach a wider audience and showcase the story in a larger-than-life way.

Overall, the experience of juggling theater, TV, and film projects has been incredibly fulfilling. Each medium offers its own challenges and rewards, and I feel fortunate to be able to explore different aspects of my craft in each one. From the timeless words of Shakespeare on stage to the fast-paced world of espionage in “Jack Ryan,” I am constantly learning and growing as an actor. And as long as I continue to be challenged and inspired by the work, I will always find joy in the art of storytelling. It’s bittersweet to see it come to an end, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a successful and engaging series.

You’ve had such a diverse career, from theater to television to film. What drives you to take on such a variety of roles?

I love the challenge of stepping into different characters and exploring different worlds. Each role allows me to learn something new about myself and the craft of acting. Variety is the spice of life, and I’m grateful for the opportunities to push myself and grow as an actor.
