‘Dorohedoro’ Season 3 Confirmed in Production by Toho
Toho has officially announced that a third season of “Dorohedoro” is currently in production. This news comes after the conclusion of the anime’s second season in April, leaving fans eager for more of the dark and chaotic world created by Q Hayashida.
Based on Hayashida’s manga of the same name, which ran for 18 years across 23 volumes, “Dorohedoro” has garnered a dedicated international following due to its unique worldview, dark humor, and unpredictable storytelling. The anime adaptation, which first premiered in 2020, exceeded expectations and received critical acclaim for its fresh take on the source material.
The series follows Caiman, a man with amnesia whose head has been transformed into that of a lizard by a sorcerer, as he teams up with Nikaido to unravel the mystery behind his curse. While no official release date has been announced for Season 3, fans can expect more of the bizarre and captivating world of the Hole.
Production for the upcoming season will once again be handled by MAPPA, the renowned animation studio behind the previous two seasons. Director Hayashi Yuichiro, known for his work on “Attack on Titan: The Final Season,” will be returning to helm the project. To celebrate the announcement, Hayashi shared a special illustration of the character Haru mid-song.
The renewal of “Dorohedoro” comes at a high point for the franchise, with Seasons 1 and 2 recently becoming available on various North American streaming platforms in April. Audiences can currently enjoy all episodes on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu/Disney+, Rakuten, and Viki, further expanding the series’ reach.
Toho, the Japanese entertainment and distribution company behind iconic franchises like “Godzilla” and “My Hero Academia,” has been making strides in the international anime market through its Toho Animation label. With the success of “Dorohedoro” and its growing popularity, Toho continues to solidify its presence in the anime industry.
