A’ja Wilson’s 25 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks lead the Aces past the Sparks 79-69

A’ja Wilson Shines as Las Vegas Aces Defeat Los Angeles Sparks

A’ja Wilson put on a stellar performance, recording 25 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks to lead the Las Vegas Aces to a 79-69 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night. Wilson’s dominant presence on both ends of the court was instrumental in securing the win for the Aces.

Jackie Young also had an impressive outing, contributing 16 points and nine assists to help propel Las Vegas to their sixth win of the season. Chelsea Gray chipped in with 12 points and 11 assists, further solidifying the Aces’ offensive prowess.

In addition to her stellar performance, Wilson achieved a significant milestone by moving into eighth place on the WNBA career blocks list with 555 blocks, surpassing Tammy Sutton-Brown. Meanwhile, Nneka Ogwumike of the Sparks made history of her own by claiming fifth place on the WNBA career rebounding list with 3,315 rebounds, surpassing Tamika Catchings.

The game saw Las Vegas take control in the third quarter, going on an 8-0 run to establish a 57-42 lead. Young’s clutch basket in the closing seconds of the quarter extended the Aces’ advantage to 13 points heading into the final period.

Despite a late surge from the Sparks, highlighted by Rae Burrell’s career-high 22 points, Las Vegas maintained their composure down the stretch. Burrell’s efforts were not enough to overcome the Aces’ stifling defense, as they held on for the ten-point victory.

Kelsey Plum was sidelined for the third consecutive game for Los Angeles due to an ankle injury, while Dearica Hamby struggled to find her rhythm, finishing the game without a made field goal for the first time since July 9, 2023.

Looking ahead, Las Vegas is set to face off against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, while Los Angeles will continue their homestand with a matchup against the Dallas Wings on Friday.

Overall, the Las Vegas Aces showcased their strength and depth to secure a hard-fought win over the Los Angeles Sparks, with A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young leading the charge. The victory serves as a testament to the Aces’ championship aspirations as they look to make a deep playoff run in the WNBA season.
