The Pixel 10 Pro XL has been a mixed bag for me. While it boasts premium hardware and feature-rich software, there are some significant drawbacks that have made using the phone more frustrating than enjoyable. As a result, I made the switch to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which has unexpectedly impressed me. However, with the upcoming release of the Pixel 11 Pro XL, there is hope for a better experience with just a few key changes.
Problem 1: Software is too restrictive
One of the major issues with the Pixel 10 Pro XL is its restrictive software. While Google’s stock Android experience is typically praised, the lack of customization options on Pixel phones is a letdown. The inability to personalize the home screen, remove the search bar, and disable the app drawer hinders the user experience. With the Pixel 11 Pro XL, Google should focus on offering more customization options, better first-party widgets, and a user-friendly interface similar to Samsung’s Good Lock app.
Problem 2: It’s too heavy
Weighing in at 232g, the Pixel 10 Pro XL is one of the heaviest phones on the market. The weight makes it uncomfortable to use one-handed and cumbersome to carry around. To address this issue, Google should focus on making the Pixel 11 Pro XL thinner and upgrading the materials used in its construction. By making the device lighter and more ergonomic, it would significantly improve the user experience.
Problem 3: Zoom photography is underwhelming
While the Pixel 10 Pro XL excels in main and ultrawide photography, its zoom capabilities leave much to be desired. The telephoto lens struggles with anything beyond 10x zoom, relying heavily on AI for Pro Res Zoom at higher magnifications. The results are often unrealistic and lack detail. To improve zoom photography on the Pixel 11 Pro XL, Google should focus on upgrading the telephoto lens hardware rather than relying solely on AI enhancements.

As we await the release of the Pixel 11 Pro XL, there is hope for a vastly improved flagship device. By addressing the software restrictions, reducing the weight, and enhancing zoom photography capabilities, Google has the opportunity to create a top-tier smartphone that could outshine the competition. With the right changes, the Pixel 11 Pro XL could set a new standard for flagships and offer a more satisfying user experience.
