Stellantis recalls more than 1 million Jeeps in U.S. that could catch fire even when turned off, feds say

Chrysler’s parent company, Stellantis, has announced a massive recall of almost 1.08 million Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators in the United States. The reason behind this recall is a potential fire hazard that has been identified in these vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been notified about this issue, and the affected model years are 2021 to 2025.

According to a statement provided by Stellantis to CBS News, the problem lies in an electrical connection issue in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring of the Jeeps. In rare circumstances, this issue can cause combustible materials to overheat, leading to a possible vehicle fire. As a precautionary measure, Stellantis is advising owners of these vehicles to park them away from structures or other vehicles until the necessary remedy is obtained.

The concerning aspect of this recall is that the fires could potentially occur even when the vehicle is parked with the ignition switched off. Stellantis is currently working on making the necessary remedies available to customers and anticipates having a solution by July at the latest. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified via first-class mail about when they can schedule service to address this issue.

In addition to the vehicles in the U.S., approximately 253,000 more vehicles in Canada, Mexico, and other regions outside of North America are also part of this recall. Stellantis is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of its customers and is urging affected individuals to follow the guidelines provided until the issue is resolved.

It is crucial for owners of these Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators to take this recall seriously and follow the instructions provided by Stellantis to prevent any potential safety hazards. The company is committed to addressing this issue promptly and ensuring the safety of its customers remains a top priority.

This information serves as a reminder of the importance of staying informed about vehicle recalls and taking necessary actions to address any safety concerns promptly. Stay tuned for updates on this recall as Stellantis continues to work towards a resolution.
