Tigers hit 6 homers in 11-0 rout of Twins
The Detroit Tigers put on a power-hitting display as they cruised to an 11-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. Spencer Torkelson led the offensive onslaught with one of Detroit’s six home runs in the game.
Colt Keith, Gleyber Torres, Riley Greene, Zach McKinstry, and Wenceel Pérez also joined in on the home run parade for the Tigers. Torkelson got things started with a two-run blast in the fourth inning, his 10th of the season. Torres and Keith added to the lead with their own homers in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Greene, McKinstry, and Pérez then went deep in the later innings to seal the dominant win for Detroit.
The Tigers got on the board early as Kevin McGonigle scored on Greene’s sacrifice fly in the first inning. Starting pitcher Keider Montero was solid on the mound, tossing 6 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out four.
On the other side, Twins starter Zebby Matthews struggled, giving up nine hits and seven runs, including three home runs. He was unable to contain the Tigers’ potent offense and was handed the loss.
Looking ahead, the Tigers will send RHP Jack Flaherty to the mound to face Cleveland on Friday, while the Twins will have RHP Joe Ryan starting against the St. Louis Cardinals. It will be an interesting matchup between Flaherty and Tanner Bibee, as well as between Ryan and Kyle Leahy.
Overall, it was a dominant performance by the Tigers, who showcased their power at the plate and strong pitching to shut out the Twins. Detroit will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming games as they continue their push for a playoff spot.
