Boy, 14, arrested for robbing children’s lemonade stand at gunpoint in Boston

A shocking incident unfolded in South Boston when a teenage boy was apprehended by the Boston Police Department for allegedly robbing a lemonade stand at gunpoint. The victims, David Byrne, 12, and Juliette Byrne, 11, were left traumatized by the harrowing experience.

The siblings had set up their lemonade stand near their home in hopes of making some extra cash before summer break. Two male juvenile suspects had been eyeing the stand before finally approaching the children at 4:45 p.m. One of the suspects brandished a black firearm, while the other snatched the cash box containing around $50.

David almost protested but decided against it, stating, “My sister, she put her hands up, and I just said, ‘You can have it’. But after that, I was just a little annoyed because we’re 12 and 11, and you shouldn’t really do that.”

The suspects fled with the cash box, leaving the siblings shaken. Fortunately, the authorities were able to recover the box, although it was empty. The children informed their father about the incident, who promptly called 911 to report the robbery.

Following the news of the robbery, the Boston community rallied around the siblings, showing their support. In a heartwarming display of solidarity, Brian and Juliette reopened their lemonade stand on Friday to an outpouring of encouragement from neighbors and city officials, including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.

Half of the proceeds from the stand’s reopening will be donated to a local organization dedicated to preventing gun violence, as announced by Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn. The arrested suspect is expected to face charges in Boston Juvenile Court for armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm. Meanwhile, the search for the second suspect continues.

Despite the frightening ordeal, the siblings displayed resilience and positivity, with Juliette expressing her gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of coming together in times of adversity and standing against violence in all its forms.
