Olivia Cooke Auditioned for Rey in ‘Star Wars’: ‘I Was Really Bad’

Olivia Cooke, known for her roles in “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” and “Ready Player One,” recently shared an interesting tidbit about her past auditions. Before landing her current role in the “Game of Thrones” spinoff “House of the Dragon,” Cooke revealed that she once auditioned for a major franchise: “Star Wars.”

In a recent interview on Josh Horowitz’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Cooke addressed rumors about her auditioning for Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” While she dismissed those reports as a “weird rumor,” she did confirm that she auditioned for the role of Rey in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” a role that ultimately went to Daisy Ridley.

Reflecting on the experience, Cooke admitted that her audition didn’t go as well as she had hoped. She described feeling unprepared and not delivering her best performance. Cooke acknowledged that Ridley did an incredible job in the role and recognized that she wasn’t quite ready for such a high-profile part at the time.

Despite not landing the role in “Star Wars,” Cooke’s career has flourished since then. She has appeared in critically acclaimed projects like “Sound of Metal” and now stars in the hit series “House of the Dragon” as Alicent Hightower. The show’s third season is currently airing, with a fourth and final season expected in 2028.

Fans can watch Cooke’s full interview on “Happy Sad Confused” for more insights into her journey as an actress. It’s clear that while she may have missed out on a role in “Star Wars,” Cooke has certainly made a name for herself in the entertainment industry.
