Dustin Poirier Says He Needs Help After Arrest, Struggling W/ Alcohol After Retiring

Dustin Poirier, the former UFC champion, recently opened up about his struggles with alcohol following his retirement from fighting. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Poirier admitted that walking away from the sport has not been easy for him, and he has turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism.

“I’m at the point where I need some help,” Poirier wrote. “Alcohol isn’t the answer. It has ruined my father’s life, and I will not allow it to ruin mine. My family deserves me at 100%.”

The 37-year-old fighter, who retired in July, made headlines when he was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson airport near Atlanta on Father’s Day. Police video showed Poirier being belligerent and cursing out airport employees before being taken into custody.

Despite the incident, Poirier is determined to get his life back on track. “I’m trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps,” he said in his Instagram post.

In the video footage from the airport, Poirier can be seen acting aggressively towards airport staff and a police officer who was trying to calm the situation. He used profanity and challenged the officers before ultimately cooperating and being taken into custody.

Poirier was charged with “Public Drunk,” a misdemeanor that could result in up to one year in jail if convicted. However, the fighter’s main focus now is on getting the help he needs to overcome his struggles with alcohol.

Known for his charitable work and popularity in the MMA community, Poirier has a strong support system of fans who are rooting for his recovery. As he navigates this challenging time in his life, Poirier is determined to prioritize his health and well-being for the sake of himself and his family.

Despite his recent setbacks, Poirier remains a respected figure in the world of fighting, and his fans are hopeful that he will be able to overcome his struggles and emerge stronger on the other side.
