President Donald Trump didn’t hold back his feelings towards his former national security adviser, John Bolton, after Bolton pleaded guilty to mishandling classified documents.
President Trump took to Truth Social to express his thoughts, labeling Bolton as “a very dumb, unbalanced, and unskilled former representative of the United States of America.”
He further criticized Bolton, stating, “He is a terrible person, a lunatic who only sought to stir up trouble and initiate wars, and who advocated for death and destruction wherever he went.”
Following his guilty plea, Bolton admitted to willfully retaining national defense information by using personal accounts to send classified information to unauthorized family members.
Trump is adamant that Bolton should face harsh consequences, as he awaits sentencing. Bolton could potentially receive a 60-month prison sentence and has been fined $2.25 million. Additionally, he and his family are ineligible to receive an annuity or federal retirement pay.
Despite his guilty plea, Bolton’s lawyer commended him for taking responsibility for his actions, citing it as a trait of a true leader.
In response to Trump’s criticism, Bolton’s lawyer retaliated, stating, “Ambassador Bolton, who only kept a diary containing classified information, did so to record history, while Donald Trump kept secrets for his own benefit.”
