Man arrested after dead 17-year-old girl found in suitcase

An Australian man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old Thai girl, Tunchanok Donhomla, whose naked body was discovered inside a suitcase near a railway line in Thailand. The 46-year-old man, hailing from Ballarat, Victoria, was apprehended as he attempted to board a plane at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok on Friday evening.

Reports indicate that the man had scratches on his arms and neck at the time of his arrest, suggesting a possible struggle. It is alleged that he picked up Donhomla from the Beach Road vice strip in Pattaya, a popular coastal resort city, in the early hours of Thursday morning before they went to his hotel together. CCTV footage captured the pair holding hands as they walked past a security guard and entered an elevator around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Police Colonel Anek Sarathongyu of the Pattaya City Police Station revealed that the hotel room showed signs of a struggle, with no one else seen entering or leaving the room after the pair went inside. Later that day, surveillance footage captured the man leaving the hotel with a black suitcase around 9:30 p.m., riding a motorcycle with the luggage strapped to the back.

Donhomla was reported missing by her friends on Friday afternoon, leading to the man’s arrest at the airport and his subsequent return to Pattaya. Authorities discovered the teenager’s body folded inside a 26-inch black suitcase alongside a railway line near the man’s hotel. She was found naked with severe injuries to her face, including swelling, bruising, and blood.

The suspect has been charged with taking a minor for the purpose of committing an indecent act, but he denies any involvement in the girl’s murder. He claims that Donhomla disappeared from the room while he was asleep and unaware of her whereabouts. Despite the fingernail scratches on his body indicating a struggle, the man maintains his innocence and has not been charged with murder.

In Thailand, murder carries severe penalties, including the death penalty or life imprisonment. The investigation into Donhomla’s tragic death is ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover the truth behind this horrific crime.
