Trumps Post Comparing Youthful Self And Obama Backfires
President Donald Trump recently tried to mock former president Barack Obama by sharing a side-by-side image on Truth Social comparing their younger selves. The image featured a photo of a young Trump in a military uniform from his time at New York Military Academy, next to a college-aged Obama smoking a cigarette and wearing a Panama hat. However, many online users were quick to point out the differences between the two men, with some even praising Obama’s coolness over Trump’s.
Liberal commentator Adam Mockler described Obama as “aura mogging” Trump, highlighting Obama’s charisma. Former Obama aide Tommy Vietor questioned the purpose of Trump’s post, suggesting that Obama looked more approachable compared to Trump.
Some individuals also questioned the accuracy of Trump’s purported age in the photo, as his image was from his high school yearbook when he would have been around 17 or 18 years old. Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, pointed out this discrepancy in a tweet.
While some of Trump’s loyal supporters appreciated his post, others criticized it for potentially misleading viewers into thinking Trump had served in the military. One user pointed out Trump’s draft dodging history during the Vietnam War, while former Rep. Adam Kinzinger emphasized that Trump had never been in the military.
This incident is part of a long history of Trump attacking Obama, with Obama recently addressing Trump’s obsession with him on a podcast. Obama expressed his confusion over why Trump would constantly focus on him instead of serving the American people.
