$31,000 Drained From Bank Accounts of Six Deceased Customers in Pennsylvania – Now a Bank Manager Is the Primary Suspect: Report
Former First Commonwealth Bank Manager Accused of Stealing $31,000 from Dead Customers’ Accounts
A shocking case has emerged at First Commonwealth Bank, where a former manager is facing allegations of stealing over $31,000 from accounts of deceased customers within just a month’s time. Jeri Mains, who was employed at the bank’s Derry Township branch in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, is at the center of this disturbing incident.
The illicit activities are said to have commenced on April 1st when Mains allegedly withdrew more than $4,500 in cash from a deceased customer’s account, as reported by CBS Pittsburgh. Subsequently, Mains is accused of forging a teller’s signature to pocket over $1,300 from another deceased customer’s account. Surveillance footage reportedly captured Mains depositing these funds into her personal account at First Commonwealth.
Further investigations revealed that on April 8th, Mains allegedly forged another employee’s signature to siphon approximately $2,200 while also stealing close to $5,000 from a different account. The illicit activities continued with Mains withdrawing $10,000 two weeks later and another $9,000 on May 1st by forging the signature of an absent employee.
It wasn’t until the end of May that the bank flagged these suspicious transactions following an internal probe. Mains is no longer employed at First Commonwealth Bank and is now facing multiple charges including theft and forgery. The bank has taken responsible measures by fully reimbursing all affected accounts.
First Commonwealth Bank, ranked as the 126th-largest bank in the country with total assets of $12.311 billion, according to the Federal Reserve, has assured customers of their commitment to safeguarding their financial interests.
