Google Pixel Watch 5 LTE Model Confusion Explained
The anticipation for the upcoming Pixel Watch 5 is steadily growing as more leaks and details surface. Recently, the smartwatch was submitted to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), adding to the excitement surrounding its release.
The FCC listing confirms the existence of the Pixel Watch 5 under model numbers G25QD, G1XJ6, G0F3Y, and GFW3R. These models are categorized as ‘wireless devices’ and are expected to come in two sizes with different connectivity options. Surprisingly, all four models are listed to have LTE (4G) along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, hinting at the absence of a more affordable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-only configuration.
Speculations have arisen about the possibility of Google introducing a Pro or Ultra model alongside the Pixel Watch 5. However, it is more likely that all models will share the same internal components, with the 4G connectivity being disabled at the firmware level before shipping.
Interestingly, the Pixel Watch 5 will not be upgraded to 5G, unlike its competitors such as the Apple Watch Series 11 and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 series. Despite the availability of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite chipset with 5G capabilities, the decision to stick with 4G LTE could be attributed to the rising costs of tech components, making the upgrade to 5G less feasible for the majority of consumers.
The Pixel Watch 5 is expected to launch in August alongside the Pixel 11 phones. Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up to unveil the Galaxy Watch 9 series, including the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, at its rumored Unpacked event on 22 July. With these releases on the horizon, the smartwatch market is set for some exciting developments in the coming months.
