Orbital Studios Brings Virtual Production to Television City in L.A.
Television City and Orbital Studios have joined forces to introduce a cutting-edge virtual production studio in the heart of Los Angeles’ Fairfax District. The new LED volume, located at 7800 Beverly Boulevard within Television City, showcases Orbital’s dedication to delivering top-tier virtual production experiences for projects of all sizes and creative visions.
“We are thrilled to welcome Orbital Studios to Television City,” expressed Anthony Mazziotti, executive director of stage operations and marketing at Television City. “Their work elevates this lot to one of the most advanced production environments globally, while upholding the rich history of these stages. This partnership embodies the essence of what makes Television City iconic and indispensable.”
In an industry where productions often seek out locations in other states or countries, this collaboration stands out by offering a solution that allows projects to capture diverse global settings without leaving Los Angeles. By keeping creative work, crew employment, and production expenditures within the local community, this partnership contributes to the sustainability of the industry in Los Angeles.
Orbital Studios is currently engaged in the production of the FX series “The Drop: A Snowfall Saga.” Their impressive portfolio includes the Netflix series “Nemesis,” where they digitally reconstructed parts of downtown Los Angeles, as well as projects like “Justified: City Primeval,” “History’s Greatest Heists,” and the recently launched docuseries “World War II with Tom Hanks.”
Founder and CEO of Orbital Studios, A.J. Wedding, shared his sentiments about the collaboration, stating, “Walking through these stages, you can sense the history and significance of the work that has been created here. We are committed to upholding that legacy by incorporating the latest virtual production technology and collaborating with skilled virtual art and AI artists in spaces that have played a pivotal role in shaping American television. Our goal is to honor the past by ensuring that future groundbreaking stories continue to unfold within these walls.”
The partnership between Television City and Orbital Studios not only showcases a fusion of tradition and innovation but also underscores the importance of preserving local talent and resources within the entertainment industry. As the new virtual production studio takes shape in Los Angeles, it heralds a new era of creativity and technological advancement in the world of television and film production.
