Kia Recalls Nearly 463,000 Telluride SUVs Over Fire Risk : Park Outside Until Fixed

Breaking news today: Kia is recalling nearly 463,000 Telluride SUVs from model years 2020 through 2024 due to a serious fire hazard.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Kia have issued an urgent warning: If you own one of these popular SUVs, park it outside and away from structures until the repair is completed. This is a critical update for our community following recent world news updates on consumer safety.

The Risk: Power Seat Overheating

The issue stems from the front power seat motor, which can overheat if the seat slide knob or side cover is struck or damaged. This misalignment can cause the motor to run continuously, leading to a fire while driving or even when the vehicle is parked.

This latest action supersedes a 2024 recall that failed to fully address the problem. To date, 18 incidents have been reported, including seven localized fires and 11 cases of seat motors melting.

What Should Owners Do?

Kia dealers will install a new electronic fuse assembly to prevent overheating, free of charge. Owners should expect notification letters starting August 13, 2026.

In the meantime, prioritize your safety:

  • Park Outdoors: Keep your Telluride away from garages or carports.
  • Check Your VIN: Visit the NHTSA website or call Kia customer service at 800-333-4542 (Recall SC374).
