LIMA, Peru — A nightclub bombing in Peru has left 33 people injured, including minors, authorities reported on Saturday.
The explosion occurred at the Dali nightclub in Trujillo province along Peru’s northern coast during the early hours, as stated by the local Emergency Operations Center.
The region has been facing a surge in violence and crime in recent times.
The responsible party and motive behind the attack remain unclear at this point.
Among the injured, five individuals are in critical condition, according to Gerardo Florián Gómez, the executive director of the Trujillo Health Network. Some victims have undergone amputations and shrapnel wounds, requiring surgical intervention. Notably, three minors, including a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds, are among the injured.
This incident follows a previous explosion in the same city less than a month ago, which damaged 25 homes without causing any casualties.
Extortion and illegal mining activities have plagued the La Libertad region, particularly in its Andean section, known for being the largest gold-producing area in Peru. Official data from 2025 revealed 286 explosions in the region, with 136 occurring in Trujillo city.
The rise of organized criminal syndicates has led to a surge in crimes like extortion in the area.
