Aaron Boone on laying wreath on 9/11 monument: ‘Really meaningful’
The New York Yankees continued their annual tradition of honoring the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks by placing a wreath on the monument in Monument Park. Manager Aaron Boone, along with pitchers Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón, took part in the ceremony before the Yankees’ 9-3 victory over the Tigers at Yankee Stadium.
Boone expressed the significance of the moment, stating, “I’ve gotten to do that now a few times when we’ve been here. So to get to walk out there with Gerrit and Carlos and just really, I mean, take in an amazing monument, and really see the Pentagon, and see the Twin Towers and the police dogs and the firemen all kind of honored on there. You know, it hits home.”
Despite the win, the Yankees remain three games back of the Blue Jays in the AL East after Toronto’s 6-0 victory over the Astros. The upcoming series against the Red Sox at Fenway Park will be crucial for the Yankees as they look to close the gap in the division race.
Looking ahead to next season, the Yankees and Mets are set to face each other on September 11 in the Bronx for the 25th anniversary of the attacks. The two teams previously met on the 20th anniversary in 2021 at Citi Field, where the emotional significance of the day was palpable.
The Yankees paid tribute to New York’s first responder agencies by wearing caps representing them during the game, and FDNY firefighter Regina Wilson sang the national anthem. The team also welcomed the Savannah Bananas to play games at the Stadium over the weekend while the Yankees are on the road in Boston.
Manager Aaron Boone reflected on the unique experience of watching the Savannah Bananas play at the Stadium, stating, “It’s amazing; the following and the venues that they’re selling out. I enjoyed it, maybe not to the level of some, but it’s definitely at least interesting.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming series against the Red Sox, Luis Gil is slated to start the opener on Friday, followed by Max Fried and Will Warren in the next two games. The Yankees will be looking to continue their winning ways as they push for a playoff spot in the competitive AL East division. In today’s fast-paced world, it can be easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. From work deadlines to family commitments, it can feel like there is never enough time in the day to slow down and take a moment for ourselves. However, it is crucial to prioritize self-care and make time for relaxation in order to maintain our mental and physical well-being.
Self-care is defined as any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. This can range from simple acts such as taking a bubble bath or going for a walk in nature, to more indulgent activities like booking a spa day or treating ourselves to a fancy dinner. The key is to find activities that help us relax and recharge, allowing us to feel more balanced and rejuvenated.
One important aspect of self-care is setting boundaries and learning to say no when necessary. It can be tempting to overcommit ourselves in order to please others, but this often leads to burnout and resentment. By being honest with ourselves and others about our limits, we can ensure that we have the time and energy to take care of ourselves first.
Another crucial component of self-care is practicing mindfulness and being present in the moment. In today’s digital age, it is all too easy to get caught up in the distractions of technology and social media. By taking the time to unplug and focus on the present moment, we can reduce stress and anxiety, and improve our overall well-being.
Exercise is also an important part of self-care, as it has been proven to have numerous physical and mental health benefits. Whether it’s going for a run, practicing yoga, or taking a dance class, finding a form of exercise that we enjoy can help us release tension and boost our mood.
In addition to physical activities, engaging in hobbies and creative outlets can also be a form of self-care. Whether it’s painting, writing, gardening, or playing music, finding activities that bring us joy and allow us to express ourselves can be incredibly therapeutic.
Lastly, self-care also includes taking care of our basic needs, such as getting enough sleep, eating nutritious foods, and staying hydrated. These simple acts of self-care can have a profound impact on our overall well-being and help us feel more energized and focused throughout the day.
In conclusion, self-care is essential for maintaining a healthy balance in our lives. By prioritizing relaxation, setting boundaries, practicing mindfulness, exercising, engaging in hobbies, and taking care of our basic needs, we can ensure that we are able to show up as our best selves in all areas of our lives. So take some time for yourself today and make self-care a priority. Your mind, body, and spirit will thank you.
