ABS-CBN’s iWant Series ‘Nurse the Dead’ Unveils First Looks

ABS-CBN’s iWant platform is set to launch a new supernatural workplace comedy series titled “Nurse the Dead,” currently in production in Los Angeles. The show follows Noa Reyes, a Filipina nurse supervisor with the ability to see ghosts, as she navigates a hospital ward filled with restless spirits. The series, which is being produced in both English and Tagalog, aims to explore the Filipino healthcare experience through a unique supernatural lens.

The show is a significant expansion for iWant, being the streamer’s first bilingual series produced in the U.S. The production is ongoing in Los Angeles and is expected to wrap up by the second week of February. Mark Labella is serving as the showrunner, creator, writer, and director of the series, with Wesley Villarica and Drea Castro also directing episodes collaboratively.

Labella shared that “Nurse the Dead” is a dark comedy that delves into the realities of the Filipino healthcare experience, particularly the challenges faced by Filipino nurses in the U.S. The series uses supernatural elements and workplace chaos to explore themes of grief, resilience, and legacy with humor and heart.

The ensemble cast includes Jelynn Malone as Noa Reyes, Gigette Reyes as Mami Tess, Johari Johnson as Jane, Anthony Jennings as Grim, Tootsie Guevarra as Zeny, Ruby Rodriguez as Ros, Princess Punzalan as Camille, Sydney Bollenbeck as DonDon, Kyle Rezzarday as George, and Natalie Orsi as Archangel Yolanda.

Jolly Estaris, head of iWant and ABS-CBN Integrated Digital Sales, emphasized the series’ role in reaching Filipino diaspora audiences. “Nurse the Dead” is part of iWant’s strategy to create Filipino storytelling with global appeal, connecting with audiences across generations and geographical locations.

iWant caters to a global audience, particularly Filipino communities in North America, offering original series, films, and live programming alongside content from ABS-CBN. The platform’s focus on diverse storytelling and cultural specificity sets it apart in the streaming landscape, making “Nurse the Dead” a highly anticipated addition to its lineup.
