All 19 NY House members — including AOC — back Kathy Hochul for re-election
All 19 House Democratic lawmakers from New York have thrown their support behind Governor Kathy Hochul for renomination, a move that mirrors the endorsement from NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani. This unified backing comes just before the state party convention in Syracuse on Friday, where Hochul is expected to secure renomination over Lt. Gov Antonio Delgado.
In a statement released by the New York Times, the House members expressed their confidence in Governor Hochul’s leadership, especially in contrast to the chaos and division sown by the Trump administration and MAGA Republicans. They praised her for unifying the party and leading the charge to protect New Yorkers and drive real progress. Additionally, they pledged their commitment to working with her to reclaim the House in 2026.
Among the lawmakers endorsing Hochul are prominent figures like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from the “Squad,” and Long Island Representative Tom Suozzi, who previously challenged Hochul in a primary race four years ago.
Mamdani, 34, also threw his support behind the governor in an op-ed published in The Nation magazine, highlighting their productive working relationship despite not always seeing eye-to-eye on every issue. He commended Hochul for defending social safety nets and securing funding for crucial infrastructure projects, emphasizing the positive shift in the relationship between Albany and City Hall under their leadership.
Looking ahead, if Hochul secures renomination in the June 23 primary, she is well-positioned to win a second full term in November. Her likely opponent will be President Trump-endorsed Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman. Meanwhile, Delgado, 49, has the opportunity to earn a spot on the primary ballot by garnering support from 25% of convention delegates or submitting a petition signed by 15,000 registered Democrats by April 6.
The strong show of support for Governor Hochul from House Democrats underscores her standing within the party and sets the stage for a competitive race as she seeks reelection.
