The incident, described as an ambush-style shooting, took place in a residential area of the city, as reported by the Investigative Committee of Russia and state-affiliated media.
The committee’s spokesperson, Svetlana Petrenko, stated that on February 6, 2026, an unidentified individual fired multiple shots at a man inside a residential building on Volokolamskoye Highway in Moscow before fleeing the scene. Alexeyev sustained injuries as a result of the attack and was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries was not immediately disclosed.
Following the incident, a criminal investigation was launched, with state-affiliated news outlet TASS confirming the victim’s identity as Lt. Gen. Vladimir Alexeyev. The Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, assured that the special services were actively involved in the case and that the incident had been reported to the head of state. Wishing the general a swift recovery, Peskov emphasized the ongoing efforts to apprehend the perpetrator.
In a concerning development, Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, made unfounded allegations suggesting Ukrainian involvement in the attack. Lavrov insinuated that Ukraine and its president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, may have orchestrated the shooting to disrupt diplomatic negotiations between Washington, Kyiv, and Moscow. These baseless claims add a layer of complexity to an already tense geopolitical landscape.
The incident underscores the volatility of international relations and the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels amidst heightened tensions. As the investigation unfolds, it is crucial to prioritize transparency and cooperation to ensure justice is served and prevent further escalation of hostilities.
In conclusion, the attack on Lt. Gen. Vladimir Alexeyev serves as a stark reminder of the security challenges faced by high-ranking officials and the need for vigilance in safeguarding diplomatic efforts. As the situation continues to evolve, a concerted effort towards accountability and stability is paramount to upholding the rule of law and promoting peace in the region.
