American Airlines evacuation in Denver as fire burns
A shocking video has emerged showing passengers evacuating an American Airlines flight at Denver International Airport, raising concerns about prioritizing luggage over safety and disregarding evacuation procedures.
The pilot can be heard in an air traffic control recording obtained by Denver7 saying, “3023’s aborting on the runway. … Fire on the left side.”
A video shared by Denver7 captured passengers sliding down the rubber slide, many clutching their carry-on bags and some struggling to balance their luggage with their children.
American Airlines officials emphasize in the airline’s safety briefing to leave all carry-ons behind in the event of an evacuation and follow the lights to the nearest exit quickly and safely.
The footage of passengers disobeying these safety instructions has sparked criticism online.
One passenger informed Denver7 that everyone on the plane was instructed not to take anything with them. Despite this, people continued to grab their bags, causing delays in the evacuation process.
During departure from Denver International Airport, part of the plane’s landing gear caught fire, as reported by Denver7.
The Miami-bound American Airlines flight 3023 experienced a “maintenance issue” with an airplane tire around 2:45 p.m., leading to the aborted takeoff, according to airline and federal officials.
Out of the 173 passengers and six crew members on board the Boeing 737 MAX 8, only one individual was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Airport authorities stated that five others were evaluated on the scene but did not require hospitalization.
Upon hearing a loud “boom,” Shay Armistead, a 17-year-old from Minturn, Colorado, recounted the terrifying experience of the plane violently shaking and veering to the left side of the runway during their journey from Colorado to Chile.
“I started grabbing my friend’s hands, I was like ‘Oh my God,’ and then they slammed on the brakes, and we all like went forward and they finally brought the plane to a stop,” she shared. “It was just terrifying.”
The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting an investigation into the incident.
