Apple TV Orders Will Poulter Series ‘Beat the Reaper’

Apple TV has recently announced the acquisition of the dramedy series “Beat the Reaper,” which is based on the novel by Josh Bazell. The show will feature Emmy nominee Will Poulter in the lead role, who is also serving as an executive producer. The show is being helmed by Sam Catlin, known for his work on “Sugar,” “Preacher,” and “Breaking Bad,” who will be the showrunner and executive producer. Apple Studios and New Regency are collaborating as co-studios for the production of the series.

In “Beat the Reaper,” Will Poulter plays the character of Dr. Peter Brown, an intern at a notorious hospital in Boston. Dr. Brown is described as having a knack for medicine, enduring a grueling work shift, and harboring a hidden past. When a patient recognizes him from his dangerous history, Dr. Brown finds himself in a race against time to evade government authorities, mob hitmen, unscrupulous surgeons, and a string of deceased gang members in order to outwit death itself.

Sam Catlin will be overseeing the production as part of his overall deal with Apple TV. The series will also have Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann on board as executive producers representing New Regency.

Will Poulter, known for his versatile acting skills, has a number of projects in the pipeline including “Union County,” the horror film “Rapture,” the Netflix drama “Saturday Return,” and the sci-fi comedy “I Love Boosters.” He has previously appeared in A24’s “Warfare” and has an impressive list of credits to his name such as “On Swift Horses,” “Death of a Unicorn,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” “The Revenant,” “Detroit,” “Midsommar,” “War Machine,” and “We’re the Millers.” Poulter has also made a mark in the television industry with his roles in “The Bear,” “Dopesick,” “Bandersnatch,” and “The Underground Railroad.”

His outstanding performances have earned him Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy for “The Bear” and another for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for “Dopesick.”
