Austin Metcalf‘s father, Jeff Metcalf, unleashed his emotions during the sentencing of convicted killer Karmelo Anthony, expressing a mix of anger and sorrow over the death of his 17-year-old son.
In a heated moment while delivering the victim impact statements, Jeff Metcalf raised his voice, pounded the podium, and demanded that Anthony look him in the eye. He declared that a part of him died when his son was fatally stabbed by Anthony.
Expressing his anguish, Metcalf shouted, “We were robbed! Don’t look down! You can’t look me in the eyes, but you can stab my son! You don’t belong in this community!” He emphasized that the case was not about race but about distinguishing between right and wrong.
Meghan Metcalf, Austin’s mother, also addressed Anthony during the sentencing, stating that he was fortunate to receive a 35-year prison term, while their family faces a lifetime of Austin’s absence.
Following four days of testimony, a Texas jury found Karmelo Anthony guilty of murder, dismissing his claim of self-defense presented by his attorney.
Anthony will be serving his sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as he begins his 35-year incarceration.
