Bessent says no formal White House health care proposal as shutdown drags on

Treasury Secretary Confirms No Formal Proposal to Defund Affordable Care Act

During an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent clarified that despite President Donald Trump’s social media post suggesting otherwise, there is currently no formal proposal from the White House to defund the Affordable Care Act and distribute funds directly to Americans.

When asked by anchor George Stephanopoulos about the President’s new proposal to eliminate Obamacare and allocate the money directly to the people, Bessent stated, “We don’t have a formal proposal.” He also mentioned that the administration was not currently considering such a plan.

Stephanopoulos pressed Bessent further on whether the proposal would be presented to the Senate, to which Bessent responded that it was not being proposed “right now.”

Additionally, Bessent was asked about Trump’s call to end the Senate’s filibuster as a way to resolve the government shutdown. When questioned if ending the filibuster was the best approach, Bessent suggested that the ideal solution would be for Democratic senators to collaborate across party lines.

As the situation continues to evolve, updates on this issue will be provided. Stay tuned for the latest developments.
