Boltz Launches Non-Custodial USDC Swaps, Bridging Bitcoin Directly To Circle’s Regulated Dollar

Boltz, a prominent non-custodial swap provider for Bitcoin, has recently unveiled a groundbreaking feature called USDC Swaps, allowing for instant conversion between Bitcoin and USDC, the regulated stablecoin issued by Circle. This new offering is available across all major Bitcoin layers, including the Lightning Network, and can be accessed at boltz.exchange.

The team behind Boltz expressed their excitement about the launch of USDC Swaps, stating that it represents a significant milestone for the Bitcoin ecosystem. They highlighted the fact that now, anyone can seamlessly transition between Bitcoin and the dollar most trusted by the regulated financial world without the need to create an account, undergo KYC procedures, or rely on a custodian throughout the process.

One of the key aspects that sets USDC Swaps apart is its non-custodial nature. While exchanging Bitcoin for USDC is not a new concept, doing so without relinquishing custody is a novel approach. Traditionally, users looking to move between Bitcoin and a regulated dollar are required to go through centralized exchanges and brokerages that mandate account creation, identity verification, and full custody of user funds. Even services that offer a similar conversion process without an account upfront still retain custody of user funds during the swap, allowing them to potentially pause settlement and request identity documents if a transaction is flagged for review. Boltz eliminates this trade-off by enabling trustless swaps that do not require an account, sign-up, or KYC at any stage, ensuring that funds remain under user control until USDC arrives in the user’s wallet.

The launch of USDC Swaps bridges the gap between the worlds of Bitcoin and stablecoins, which have historically evolved on separate paths. With a single transaction, value can now seamlessly move between Bitcoin and a fully reserved, monthly-attested dollar that is integrated into the products of prominent financial entities such as Stripe, Coinbase, Visa, Mastercard, BlackRock, and many others. This integration allows Bitcoin to directly tap into the regulated financial infrastructure that is increasingly being adopted by institutions worldwide.

Powered by Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP), USDC Swaps ensure that every USDC delivered through a Boltz swap is authentic, Circle-issued USDC that is accepted by regulated payment partners globally. Leveraging CCTP also enables Boltz to serve users across various USDC-supported networks, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Polygon, and more, from a single liquidity provider.

Boltz believes that USDC Swaps unlock a wide range of practical applications, such as off-ramping Bitcoin into the banking system through regulated partners that accept USDC, facilitating day-to-day operations for Bitcoin-native businesses, and enabling merchant settlement for Bitcoin-accepting businesses, among others. These use cases are now easily accessible without the need to use crypto wallets outside of the Bitcoin ecosystem.

It is important to note that despite the introduction of USDC Swaps, Boltz remains committed to its Bitcoin-first approach. All swaps continue to be non-custodial and settle atomically, with a “Bitcoin-Only Mode” available for users who prefer a simplified interface. USDC Swaps are now live on boltz.exchange, with plans to integrate them into various SDKs and the Boltz BTCPay Plugin in the near future.
