Boy, 17, shot while sleeping in Edgewater
A 17-year-old boy was injured in a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday in Edgewater. According to Chicago police, the teenager was sleeping in the basement of a residence on the 1000 block of West Thorndale Avenue when gunshots were fired through a basement window around 3:34 a.m. One of the bullets struck the boy in the ankle, and he was subsequently taken to St. Francis Hospital in good condition.
Authorities recovered four shell casings in the alley and are investigating whether the shooting is linked to a black Jeep Grand Cherokee that was seen speeding away from the area shortly before the incident. This marks the third shooting in Edgewater this year, excluding self-inflicted wounds.
