Bryan Kohberger Trial to Get Real-Time Coverage from “48 Hours”
The highly anticipated true crime program “48 Hours” is gearing up to launch a groundbreaking weekly video podcast that will provide real-time coverage of the Bryan Kohberger murder trial. Hosted by the esteemed Peter Van Sant, the podcast titled “Inside the Bryan Kohberger Trial: The Idaho Student Murders” is set to debut on July 26 with three background episodes leading up to the trial. Once the trial commences, the show will release a new episode each week, offering viewers exclusive reporting and in-depth analysis of the proceedings. The podcast will be available on various streaming services including Pluto TV and YouTube.
The trial revolves around the tragic fatal stabbings of University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, and Madison Mogen at their off-campus housing in Moscow, Idaho back in November 2022. Bryan Kohberger stands accused of the heinous murders.
Van Sant, who has been closely following the case since its inception and previously covered it on “48 Hours,” expressed his deep connection to the story. Having attended nearby Washington State University, he considers Moscow, Idaho, a second home. In a statement, Van Sant shared, “These horrific murders have shaken me to the core. I have followed this tragedy from the beginning, soaking in every twist and turn—every new detail which has emerged. Working with my ’48 Hours’ team, we have uncovered never-before-heard content from some of the families of the lost students, along with incisive commentary from top criminal and legal experts.”
This podcast will mark the first time that “48 Hours” covers a murder trial in both video and audio formats in real-time. Earlier this year, the show introduced “Post Mortem,” which also offers content on both audio and video platforms.
The Bryan Kohberger case has attracted significant media attention since the initial reports of the stabbings. Other projects are also in the works to shed light on the tragic events, including a docuseries released by Paramount+ and a nonfiction book by James Patterson and Vicky Ward. Amazon Prime Video has also ordered a docuseries based on the book.
