‘Buffy’ and ‘Ted Lasso’ Star Was 72

British actor Anthony Head, known for his iconic roles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Ted Lasso,” has passed away at the age of 72. His daughters Emily and Daisy Head confirmed his death, revealing that he died peacefully surrounded by his family after complications from pneumonia.

Head will always be remembered for his portrayal of Rupert Giles, the Watcher and father figure to Buffy Summers, in all seven seasons of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar. He also captured hearts as Rupert Mannion in “Ted Lasso,” playing the grumpy former owner of AFC Richmond who transfers ownership to his wife during their divorce.

Aside from these beloved roles, Head showcased his talent in various other projects. He played the Prime Minister in the sketch comedy series “Little Britain” and Uther Pendragon in the fantasy series “Merlin.”

Although he gained recognition on television, Head’s career began on the stage in the late 1970s with the musical “Godspell.” He continued to shine in productions like “Chess,” “Peter Pan,” and “Rocky Horror Show Live.” Before his television success, Head became a household name in the UK through a series of Nescafé commercials from 1987 to 1993.
